I was back in Perry this evening photographing Alex Watts at the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department. Alex is a volunteer firefighter there as well as being a Senior at Perry-Lecompton High School. After high school Alex has plans to attend the Kansas Firefighters School in Hutchinson.Williamstown Fire Department has responsibility for the southern part of Lake Perry as well as covering medical calls from Perry to east of Williamstown. Summer holiday's can be quite busy for the fire department due to the popularity of the lake and the high amount of traffic on US Hwy 24. It was fun getting to meet the fire fighters at the station.
Most of us think of large city fire departments when we think of fire departments but according to the United States Fire Administration 88% of the fire departments in the United States are all volunteer or mostly volunteer. We are very lucky to have dedicated neighbors that give of their free time and risk personal safety to help others! Tom
